Atlético Madrid, 1-0 Barcelona La Liga: Match Review

Atletico Madrid pulled off their first La Liga win over Barcelona in more than a decade as  belgium  international Yannick Carrasco capitalised on a mistake  from Barca keeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen to secure a 1-0 victory at an empty Wanda Metropolitano on Saturday.Atletico Madrid have now extended their unbeaten run in La Liga to 24 matches and will see this season as an excellent opportunity to win the title. Barcelona now have only 11 points from eight games and have largely failed to turn their fortunes around under Ronald Koeman.Barça captain Lionel Messi had a match to forget, creating very little danger, while former Atleti forward Antoine Griezmann missed the target in each half as the Catalans fell to a third defeat of the season, leaving them 10th in the table on 11 points.

Barcelona suffer yet another defeat in La Liga, this time by one goal to nil at the Wanda Metropolitano, as we slip 9 points behind Atlético Madrid, and have a mountain to climb should we want to regain top spot any time soon.

Barcelona knew the difficulty of playing Atlético Madrid away from home, and massively struggled to create any meaningful opportunities against Simeone’s resolute block. The Catalans also didn’t help themselves when a terrible mistake from Marc-André ter Stegen gave the home side the lead on the stroke of half time.To compile even more misery on Barcelona, Gerard Piqué and Sergi Roberto both picked up what look to be very serious injuries, leaving Barca even lighter at the back, and desperate for points.
